With Cupid still flitting about shooting arrows every which way, we figured we’d stick with the theme of romance. This week, we thought we’d take a look at our favorite Disney couples. Putting together a list like this is difficult. Disney has created some of the greatest and most iconic love stories ever told. It’s impossible not to leave a few out. If your favorite didn’t make the list, let us know who you would have included in the comments. Now, without further ado…

10. Thomas O’Malley and Duchess from The Aristocats

The Aristocats was released in 1970 and tells the story of the cat Duchess, her kittens, and a free-spirited stray cat named Thomas O’Malley. The group travels through the French countryside after being kidnapped and abandoned by an evil butler. The streetwise cat leads them to Paris while introducing the kittens to jazz. Thomas and Duchess fall in love, and O’Malley takes to the kittens as though they were his own.

9. Lady and Tramp from Lady and the Tramp

Similar to The Aristocats, Lady and the Tramp features a rich dog, Lady, who falls in love with a stray dog named Tramp. After a human baby is born to Lady’s family, Lady finds herself put out of the house by dog-hating Aunt Sally. Tramp shows her what “a dog’s life can really be.” The love story gives us one of Disney’s most iconic scenes of romance: Lady and Tramp at Tony’s eating pasta by candlelight. While most people remember their accidental kiss while eating spaghetti, I think the most romantic moment is when Tramp shares a meatball with Lady. Willingly giving away a tasty meatball equals true love.

8. Leia Organa and Han Solo from Star Wars

Most of the couples on this list are matches made in heaven. Leia and Han are…different. From the very beginning, the pair annoy each other. Han is a stuck up, half-witted, scruffy looking nerf herder, and Leia is an entitled rich royal. At least, that’s how they see each other at first. Honestly, they’re romance stays just as dysfunctional throughout the series. They fight, get jealous, and Leia even kisses another man (who turns out to be her brother). Still, you always find yourself pulling for them. They also gave us one of the great moments in cinema history: As Han is about to be frozen alive in carbonite, Leia finally says, “I love you.” Ever the sensitive romantic, Han responds, “I know.”

7. Aladdin and Jasmine from Aladdin

A great Disney love story needs a great Disney love song, and Aladdin has one of the best. The duet “A Whole New World” is one of the most popular and classic songs in the Disney canon. The couple’s nighttime flight of Agrabah is pure romance. The story also shows how love is stronger than things like custom, class, and ego maniacal Grand Viziers intent on being the most powerful being in the universe.

6. Jack Skellington and Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas

Love can be a little spooky, so obviously we had to include a couple who are a little spooky too. Jack and Sally from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas are a great example of how beside every great skeleton is a great woman who was pieced together by a mad scientist. Jack is the leader of Halloweentown, and Sally is his closest friend. She’s also the common sense anchor in their relationship. Santa himself thinks so, declaring that she’s the “only one who makes any sense around this insane asylum.” Disney has created many romantic scenes over the years, but the image of Jack and Sally standing together on Spiral Hill will always be one of our favorites.

5. Bob and Helen Parr from Pixar’s The Incredibles

Pixar just has a way with creating great couples. Bob and Helen Parr, aka Mr. and Mrs. Incredible, are one of the absolute best. Whether fighting super villains together or trying to conquer the day-to-day chaos of parenting, Bob and Helen are a perfect team. Throughout The Incredibles 1 and 2 we see the pair buoy each other up, make sacrifices for the good of their relationship and family, and compliment each other’s strengths.

To be honest, we were a little tempted to put Lucius (Frozone) and Honey Best on our list, but they’re too busy arguing about the location of his Super Suit.

4. Anna and Kristoff from Frozen

Sometimes the best relationships have to overcome the most obstacles. Anna and Kristoff from Frozen might be the best example of that. Their love story starts with Anna engaged to a man she just met and Kristoff’s friendship with his reindeer is, according to his family, “a little outside of nature’s laws.” Fortunately, Kristoff’s family also happen to be love experts. He might be a bit of a fixer upper, but who isn’t? According to the trolls, everyone’s a bit of a fixer upper. That’s what it’s all about! Father! Sister! Brother! We need each other to raise us up and round us out.

3. Belle and Beast from Beauty and the Beast

Speaking of relationships that have to overcome obstacles, when Beast and Belle meet he’s under a curse that makes him, well, a beast. As if that weren’t enough, he has imprisoned Belle’s father. He’s hardly the prince charming that Belle has read about in her books. The story of how Belle learns to see beyond his Beastly-ness is a love story for the ages. The dance that they share in the ballroom is wildly romantic, and it’s made perfect by Mrs. Potts (Angela Lansbury) singing the song Beauty and the Beast.

2. Carl and Ellie Fredrickson from Pixar’s Up

Carl and Ellie from Pixar’s Up are absolute relationship goals. The first ten minutes of Up tell one of the most moving love stories in the history of cinema and that’s not hyperbole. From their childhood bonding over adventure and the creation of the “Ellie Badge” to the joys and heartbreaks of their married life, the pair are clearly not just a romantic couple, but best friends as well. Their relationship is the basis of all of the action that takes place in the film, driving Carl on his adventure to South America and even guiding his developing friendship with Russel.

1. Mickey and Minnie Mouse

When it comes to Disney, everything will always begin and end with Mickey and Minnie Mouse. They have been a couple for over 90 years and are still going strong. The pair have appeared in cartoons, movies, theme parks, on Disney cruises, on ice, and on countless pieces of merchandise. Despite the constant attempts of Big Bad Pete, nothing has gotten in the way of their relationship. The pair even had a theme song together: Minnie’s Yoo Hoo. The song appeared first in the animated short Mickey’s Follies and was written by Carl Stalling and Walt Disney.

I’m the guy they call little Mickey Mouse
Got a sweetie down in the chicken house
Neither fat nor skinny
She’s the horse’s whinny
She’s my little Minnie Mouse!

Honorable Mention: Walt and Lillian Disney

When it comes to Disney couples, no conversation is complete without mentioning the original Disney couple, Walt and Lillian. The two were wed on July 13, 1925, having met when Lillian joined the Walt Disney Studio as an inker of animated cells. In a touching connection to our other favorite Disney couple, it was Lillian who came up with Mickey’s name. Back in 1928, as they rode a train from New York (where Walt had learned that he had lost the rights to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, as well as most of his animation staff), Walt dreamed up a new character, “Mortimer Mouse.” Mortimer? Yup! “Not Mortimer,” Lillian replied when he told her his idea. “It’s too formal. How about Mickey?” And that’s how close we came to “Mortimer and Minnie!”
